Building the New TBLR (2013 - 2014)

In 2013 work started on extending the original railway, although the plans were not finalised until April 2014. Whichever plan was adopted, the extension would definitely run into the workshop, and in the winter of 2013/14 the indoor work was carried out, this included re-wiring and refitting the workshop as well as building the baseboard and laying track. The planned extension was approximately three times the size of the original line, so in effect, this is a new railway, although most of the old line is incorporated in it.

The new line occupies two sides of the garden in an area measuring approximately 50 feet by 25 feet, and runs through a workshop measuring 17 feet by 8 feet. The indoor section uses timber framing and OSB (Oriented Strand Board) for the baseboard; outside the structure of the railway is made from Filcris recycled plastic products, and follows the construction method described by Andrew Rawlins in his article in Garden Rail magazine issue 225 May 2013.
