TBLR No. 12 - Snow Plough
This freelance model is more of a garden tool than an authentic vehicle. Heavy snowfall is not that common in County Donegal, and even if it was, a small and impoverished railway like the TBLR would not invest in such a costly piece of non revenue earning equipment. The preferred method of snow clearance would be men with shovels.
Snowfall is not that common in southern England either, typically 1-2 days on average each winter, none at all some years; however I thought it would be fun to have one in anticipation of wintry weather. I mated a Swift Sixteen snow plough casting with an Accucraft/Trackshack Welshpool and Llanfair goods brake in bauxite livery. The plough is heavy, in excess of 1kg, so I had to add weight to the van portion as a counter weight, the whole thing weighs over 3kg.
The snow plough was built in the autumn of 2014, and waited nearly three and a half years before it was called on to deal with it's first taste of snow on 27 February 2018!
